The ever-changing combination of light and shadows add to the beauty and enjoyment of the challenging Shadow Course at Lost Canyons. Built on land of which Pete Dye remarked, “the best suited and the most naturally beautiful land that I have ever had the opportunity to design upon”.

Shadow Course Hole Detail: Front 9Please allow this page to completely load before navigating through the Hole Details.

Player Notes: The first hole of the Shadow Course is a short, uphill par 4 played into the prevailing breeze. The tee shot must avoid the large bunkers on the left, and short of the two deep pot bunkers that lie short of the green. Behind the green, a bluff has been naturally eroded, revealing a pointed, white escarpment.

Player Notes: Club selection is critical on this challenging par 3 whose smallish green rests at the edge of a steep embankment. The tee shot must be played over native terrain. The green has many challenging hole locations making par or birdie a very good score on this hole.

Player Notes: The tee shot of this dogleg right par 4 should be toward the pot bunker in the distance. The landing area is hidden from view by a hill on the right of the fairway, and mounds in the fairway. A well-struck tee shot will leave players with a short iron into the green, but be careful, this large, but deceptive green slopes from front to back.

Player Notes: The fourth hole, named for the ranch that Lost Canyons was built upon and the impressive panoramic view from the green, is a long, challenging par 3. Dry Creek Canyon and a large bunker guard the right side of this green that is bisected by a ridge that runs the length of the green.

Player Notes: This short par 4 plays much longer than its yardage. The tee shot must avoid the hidden canyon on the left of the fairway, and the native landscape to the right. From the fairway, the player should play at least one extra club to reach this difficult, plateau green. Any approach shots hit short or to the right of the green will come to rest 20 feet below the surface of the green, making recovery very challenging. Birdies are endangered species on this par 4.

Player Notes: Architect Pete Dye found a narrow opening at the bottom of a hidden canyon to frame the tee shot on the number one handicap hole. The tee shot should be played to the right center of the fairway to avoid the slope on the left that will block the player’s view of the green for the approach shot. The second stroke is a long iron or fairway wood that must avoid the bunker complex that is short and right of this challenging green. “Pete’s Way” reveals his diabolical style from tee to green on this beautiful hole.

Player Notes: Named for the old corral on the right side of the fairway, the seventh hole is a challenging par 5. The tee shot must avoid the bunkers on the right side of the fairway. The second stroke is played to an undulating, plateau fairway. The third shot will be a pitch to a small undulating green. Birdie on this hole is a very well deserved score.

Player Notes: This downhill par 4 features a downhill tee shot that must avoid the deep bunkers that are along the right side of the fairway. The second shot must be played over Dry Creek, or Arroyo Seco, in Spanish. The two-tiered, kidney shaped green has many challenging hole locations.

Player Notes: With the prevailing breeze at the player’s back, this par 5 can be reached in two. However, the dry creek must be avoided on the first and second strokes. The hazard and deep bunker guard the narrow green for the aggressive player. The safe strategy is to play to the fairway to the left of the green. From that angle, the player can use the length of the green to their advantage, and still have the opportunity to make birdie.
